Master builders acquire skills such as: participating in multidisciplinary teams, interacting with construction specialists, visualizing, reading, interpreting and understanding the information contained in the architectural construction plans, of which a complete executive project consists.

Technical manuals were created as didactic tools for builders, “which are developed as an academic program, like those carried out for any subject of the degree in the Faculty of Architecture.”

The students are the ones who materialize an architectural project with their manual skills. By using the right tools they excavate, build walls, cast mezzanines, roofs, but they have not been given the recognition they deserve and their work is practically anonymous.

People from families of bricklayers who made the decision to study a degree in Architecture also participate in the training. “When they reach the higher level they reaffirm a lot of their knowledge, because some have been helpers since they were little.”

According to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, the personnel employed in formal construction companies fell 9.2 percent during the last year. In addition, a drop of 8.1 percent was reported in the number of people hired directly by construction companies, especially workers.

In Mexico there are 35 million 233 thousand 462 inhabited dwellings; the housing industry is equivalent to 6 percent of the national GDP, a figure higher, for example, than the 3.7 percent of the automotive industry.
