Berrettini, finalist in Wimbledon, out for Tokyo 2020 due to injury

The Italian tennis player Matteo , finalist in the last tournament of Wimbledon, has resigned to participate in the Tokyo Olympics five days after they start due to muscle discomfort, confirmed today the Italian Olympic Committee it’s a statement.

The 25-year-old tennis player drags an ailment suffered throughout the tournament Wimbledon, in which on July 11 he reached the final, although he lost against the Serbian Novak Djokovic, number one in the world.

Berrettini he became the first Italian to contest the final of the London tournament.

With his resignation to Tokyo, the Italian delegation will be made up of 384 athletes (197 men and 187 women).

No one will replace the promise of Italian tennis, as the International Tennis Federation (ITF), does not allow substitutions in the team of players indicated by the Olympic Committees from July 16.
