The Aragonese Pol Oriach was proclaimed this Sunday European champion under 20 of 3,000 meters hurdles by winning the Tallinn final in a powerful final lap that gave him the title with a time of 8: 41.36, best European record of the year and fourth in Spain of all time.
I started as a favorite, but in the middle of the race Oriach he was far behind the Danish Axel Christense, which escaped almost from the start.
Christensen set a rhythm that brought the group into line one by one, with Oriach behind him, in no-man’s-land for several laps.
At the bell, the Danish advantage seemed decisive, but the Spaniard had not said his last word. In the counter-right, he greatly reduced the distance with the Dane and from the last obstacle left him irretrievably behind.
In a final with triple Spanish representation, Marc Fernandez finished seventh with 9: 03.27 and Carlos Gomez thirteenth with 9: 18.57.
It was the fifth medal for Spain in the Tallinn Europeans and the second gold medal, after that achieved by Paul mcgrath in 10,000 meters walk.
In addition, they have achieved silver Marina Martinez in 1,500 and David cantero in 5,000, and Mireya Arnedillo a bronze in 1,500.
