Announced two years ago, little by little we have been seeing how other Marvel Studios projects were advancing and seeing the light while the film of “Blade” it was still without news. That changes today with the announcement of Kevin Feige’s option to get behind the scenes in this reinterpretation of Marvel’s vampire slayer.
As we can read in Deadline, director Bassam Tariq is in final negotiations to direct “Blade”. Although there is still no agreement closed, the portal places Tariq as the definitive option and the talks are more of a formality. Tariq is a rookie director who, for now, only has one movie on his resume, “Mogul Mowgli” with Riz Ahmed, while the rest of his work consists of documentaries and the occasional short.
In the same news it is commented that Stacy Osei-Kuffour will write the script for the film. Osei-Kuffour has served as a story editor on the HBO series “Watchmen,” a role that involves reading the scripts, making edits, and sharing them with the producers.
While Marvel Studios has not confirmed anything on their own, Deadline says that both the studio executive and Mahershala Ali, the actor in charge of playing Blade, have been seeing dozens of candidates since last fall. While at one point they considered someone to write and direct at the same time, they ultimately decided to hire Osei-Kuffour to create the script. Since then they have been meeting with potential directors from March to June, with Tariq’s proposal that has won all parties involved.
