When Google introduced a new operating system for televisions last year, it promised to bring a modern interface to Chromecast. It also caused a lot of confusion about what would happen to the Android TV operating system, which powers hundreds of models of various devices and televisions. Those older devices didn’t get the new Google TV interface, but the company started rolling out some updates that made Android TV look more like the new design, including a fresh look and a Discover tab. Today, Google is also adding new tools to Android TV so that its use is more similar to how it is Google TV– Watch list, recommendation tuning, and detail pages.
With this update, you can now add titles to your watch list on Android TV, either by long-pressing what you have selected and pressing “Add to Watch List” or by pressing the “Watch List” option on the details page of the Program. You can also add to the list from your phone or laptop through “Google Search” or in the TV app. Your saved items will appear in a row in the newly launched “Discover” tab.
The company also modified the detail pages for each program by adding Trailers that play automatically when you search for more information on each title, in a similar way to how other services such as Netflix have been structured.
