(Bloomberg) – It’s now or never. Last month’s record temperatures in the Pacific Northwest, along with last week’s extreme flooding in Germany and Belgium, meant more than an extraordinary heat wave for scientists. The severity of the events marked a potential milestone in the climate crisis, for which most cities are ill-prepared. A new report from McKinsey Sustainability and the C40 Cities coalition urges lawmakers to take a “war position” against climate change, outlining 15 adaptation strategies to make cities more resilient, writes Patrick Sisson. Amid the increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters, some experts agree that it is too late to stop the most serious impacts. But the combination of advanced research, successful examples of adaptation efforts, and new financial mechanisms means that now is the best time to act.
