Marta makes history in Tokyo

Veteran Brazilian soccer player Marta became the first player to score in five consecutive Olympic Games (Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020). Brazil defeated China 5-0 in the first round of the Women’s Olympic Soccer Tournament in Tokyo with a great performance from the 35-year-old forward who scored a double.

Vieira da Silva, who was voted the best player in the world six times by FIFA, bears the responsibility of leading her squad to Olympic gold. The Brazilians, silver in Athens and Beijing, seek to remove the thorn from previous editions.

Marta only played nine games with her team Orlando Pride throughout 2021, but she reached the fair maximum in good condition and started her participation with the right foot adding one more goal to her personal account, for 12 in total, which makes her the second highest scoring footballer in tournament history.
