There’s something the MCU had been missing all this time that is soon to change: animated projects. What If …? It will be the first animated series in this franchise. Of course, being focused on the multiverse, it seems that everything that we will see in it could not have a real impact on the history of this cinematic universe. We are simply going to look at the different ways in which the history of the different films could have developed.

While it was announced that there would be a second season of this show, more than one person have been wondering if Marvel has planned to do more animated series or this show is going to be an exception in the MCU. In addition to this, rumors began to emerge of the existence of a specialized animation studio for Marvel that could be called Marvel Animation Studios. Now we know that it will be the first of many thanks to Victoria Alonso, the vice president of Marvel Studios, and also that such a studio exists, in a way.
The executive spoke to Variety (via Comic Book). During the interview, the issue of whether we could expect more MCU-style animated shows than Lucasfilm has done with Star Wars over the years came up. The answer was yes:
We are going to have our animation branch and a mini-studio, and more things will come as well. We are super excited about animation, which was my first love.

Of course, this only raises great doubt. What is to come? He did not necessarily say that they are going to be animated series. Let’s not rule out the possibility that we may soon see the first animated film of the MCU, although the truth is that what they are going to produce are animated series for Disney Plus. That’s an approach Disney has taken with Star Wars and they are likely to repeat it with the intellectual properties of the House of Ideas.
Speaking of which, what properties are you planning to adapt to the animated world? At this early stage, all we could do is speculate. One possibility is that they revive one of the two animated series that Hulu was originally going to do. It would not be strange if they decided to revive Howard the Duck, for example. It’s the type of property that would work best as an animated series.
The other great doubt that the existence of this study generates is: are the properties of this study going to be part of the MCU? The one that is soon to be released is, with everything and the original actors. This makes us think that whatever they are going to do is going to be part of the main continuity of the studio, just as is the case with the Star Wars animated series.
By the way, since I mentioned Howard the Duck, Kevin Smith was in charge of that series and recently said that when he was working on it they told him that he could not use Werewolf by Night because they already have plans for the character in the MCU:
Two years ago when we announced, ‘Hey, we’re doing Masters of the Universe!’ Which is about to happen, we also announced, ‘Hey, we’re doing Howard the Duck!’ that was going to be on Hulu, remember that? For a hot minute I was working on Howard the Duck and before Dave Willis got involved [cocreador de Aqua Teen Hunger Force]When it was just me, Jeph Loep said to me, ‘Hey man, I think you’d be cool to make Howard the fucking Duck.’ I contacted Walter Flanagan from Comic Book Men and he said he was going to try the damn characters from the seventies, Walt gave me suggestions and Werewolf by Night of course was on that list. In my head, as I was building my season, I was thinking, ‘Very good. Episode 5. Werewolf by Night ‘. The idea of our story was that Howard was trapped here and was trying to get the pages of the Darkhold, which would allow him to return. That’s Howard while I was planning it. And then I went to see Jeph and I told him what I wanted to do, and that’s when they said, ‘You can’t use Werewolf by Night. And I asked them why. They told me the movie division was using it.
