Police arrested eight elements of Boca Juniors after altercation against Atlético Mineiro

After a new scandal in the Copa Libertadores due to the VAR, three elements of Boca Juniors could be detained by Brazilian authorities after the altercations that occurred at the Mineirão Stadium after the elimination of the Argentines against Atlético Mineiro.

At the end of the round of 16 match, in which Atlético Mineiro advanced on penalties, the Boca Juniors players tried to enter the Brazilians’ dressing room looking to put together a pitched battle.

According to information from Argentine media, after being repelled with tear gas by security elements, the police would have tried to arrest the players Sebastián Villa and Carlos Zambrano, as well as the goalkeeping coach Fernando Gayoso, when they were allegedly identified as aggressors.

Nahuel Ferreira, an Argentine journalist, reported that the entire Xeneize campus was already on the Boca Juniors bus, however, they were not allowed to leave the Mineirão because the authorities planned to detain various elements.


According to information from journalist César Luis Merlo, eight elements of Boca Juniors are being held in a police station presenting a statement, while the Argentine authorities are seeking to return them to the country as soon as possible.

“ALERT: There are 8 members of the #Boca delegation who are in a police station giving a statement. Meanwhile, the ambassador @danielscioli works to get them to pay a fine and be released as soon as possible.”
