The United States women’s gymnastics team, headed by Simone Biles, will not reside in the Olympic Village of Tokyo for fear of a contagion of covid-19, confirmed her coach, Cecile Landi, on social media.
“It is a decision that we have made together. We believe that we can better control our health and safety in a hotel “he explained.
The United States Federation said on Tuesday that it was already planning to host the team in a hotel, instead of an Olympic Village through which about 11,000 athletes will pass during the Games.
This Monday it was confirmed that reserve gymnast Kara Eaker had tested positive for coronavirus at Narita training ground, about 46 kilometers from Tokyo, so she and her partner Leanne Wong have been quarantined.
At the moment there have been three cases of athletes who have tested positive in the Olympic Village.
