Casimero vows to retire Rigondeaux

WBO bantamweight world champion John Riel Casimero anticipated his upcoming championship matchup against two-division world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux during a virtual press conference on Wednesday. They will meet on August 14 live on SHOWTIME from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

“I am so ready for this fight on August 14th. Training camp has gone so well and I’m ready for the fight.

“Nonito Donaire didn’t want to fight me but he’s fine. Donaire is easy for me. Now I have Rigondeaux and I know he has a lot of experience. He is a two-division world champion and a two-time Olympic gold medalist. This will be a great fight.

“Rigondeaux has a very different style than Donaire. In fact, I’m a lot more excited to fight Rigondeaux because Donaire is scared of me. I don’t think Rigondeaux is scared. If you’re not scared, you’d better fight me and don’t run.

“I want this to be a fight. The fans want this to be a fight. I hope Rigondeaux doesn’t run. If you do, it will be a boring fight. Their old fights are useless. All it does is run, run, run. I want the Rigondeaux that doesn’t run, the one that boxes and fights.

“I think my pace of work will overwhelm Rigondeaux. We put together a good strategy with my coach from Rigondeaux. We have seen many tapes about him. We just hope the Rigondeaux who fought Nonito Donaire on a bike doesn’t show up. We want to see the one we’ve seen recently come to fight. I want to excite the folks at Dignity Health Sports Park. It’s a very special place for me because that’s where I won the WBO title. It will be another great fight if Rigondeaux comes to fight.

“When I beat Rigondeaux on August 14, he will retire. Is over. Finite!
