The Las Kellys women’s hotel cleaners organization has managed to exceed 60,000 euros on the Goteo crowdfunding platform. With more than 67,000 euros in contributions of 2,140 people, they could still get closer to the 90,000 euros they hope to achieve before the end of the campaign in three days.
The idea is to use this money to create its own reservation center linked to the Fair Labor and Quality Seal that only includes hotels in which they have union representation and can guarantee that labor rights are respected.
In addition, establishments that meet the requirements to obtain this seal will have to respect and comply with the collective agreement, not outsource or subcontract the nuclear work of their activity, comply with the laws of prevention of occupational risks, equally remunerate men and women, contract to people who are part of vulnerable groups and incorporate “measures related to the promotion of stable and quality work” (such as, for example, permanent contracts).
“This Reservation Center aims to be a tool for social transformation that goes beyond contracting accommodation in hotels”, explains the organization on the initiative page. “We want to clean up the world and inaugurate the new era of tourism based on respect, beauty and well-being, which puts human interests before commercial ones all over the planet,” they continue.
Patrons can contribute between 15 and 500 euros to support the initiative, which was born in July. With these amounts they have managed to exceed the minimum figure that had been set to create the Central Reservations, 60,000 euros, although the 90,000 that they consider optimal are still somewhat far away. “There are more than 2,000 people who believe in us, in our project, who support us and continue to join. This cannot be paid, it is priceless”, celebrated the representative of Las Kellys in Catalonia, Vania Arana, in statements to Europa Press. The plant is expected to be operational in 2022.
