On Monday of last week Marvel and Sony gave fans what they had been waiting for, the trailer for Spider-Man: No Road Home, and in its first 24 hours the trailer broke the records of reproductions of Avengers: Endgame – 95%, who had the most viewed trailer in history. Now bad news seems to come for fans, as the premiere could be delayed until 2022.

This is not entirely unexpected, as after Black Widow – 87% had the largest drop in attendance in its second week in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that estimates for Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings – 95% were not that good, Box Office Pro announced that Marvel will evaluate the performance of this latest film to decide whether to delay the premiere of Eternals, scheduled to hit theaters in November.
Given the Spider-Man: No Way Home It is a very ambitious project, launching it when the box office has stabilized is something very important, and according to the journalist Grace randolph, there is a high probability that a delay will be announced and that its release date will be moved to March 2022:
I’ll tell you something else I’m hearing… there’s a VERY high possibility that Venom 2 and Spider-Man: No Way Home are moving. And Spidey could get the Doctor Strange date March 2, 2022. We should know sometime next month or so …

The delay of Spider-Man: No Way Home logically it would mean the delay of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Another option is that Disney opts for the much-criticized strategy of simultaneous release in cinemas and Disney Plus premium, although it does not seem very likely since Spider-Man: No Way Home is a joint production with Sony Pictures. On the other hand, they could do it with Eternals and deliveries scheduled for 2022.
Let’s hope the trailer’s promised date, December 17, sticks, and fans don’t have to wait too long to see. Spider-Man: No Way Home, a film that promises to have one of the most epic crossovers in the history of superhero cinema, as it will bring back heroes and villains from the past.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe became in less than ten years the highest grossing franchise in history, surpassing great successes such as Star Wars and Harry Potter. The reason is that Marvel Studios produced many different superhero movies, while the two franchises mentioned above are focused on one genre, space opera / science fiction and fantasy respectively. In that sense, Marvel has an advantage, because its films can range from fantasy to science fiction, space opera and spy movies, there is something for everyone
Sometimes the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are reproached for not being very serious or for always falling into the same clichés, but with all their problems, the public has flocked to theaters when there are big crossovers, and after Avengers: Endgame no news of a crossover bigger than Spider-Man: No Way Home. That is why it is very logical to think that you want to delay as long as possible, so that your collection at the box office is as high as expected before the pandemic.
When theaters were closed in the first months of 2020, the virus had not been studied enough and it was anticipated that closed spaces were the most conducive places to become infected. However, later studies (which you can read here) showed that cinemas are not dangerous spaces, in fact they are much safer than houses where family or friends gatherings are held, this is because in the movie theater most he doesn’t speak, and the air is constantly changing during a movie. Unfortunately the publication of these studies has not been able to reduce the fear of the population to go to theaters.
