The Dune project had all the elements for disaster. To begin with, it was a work that had been in limbo for several years because no one wanted to take the risk of writing and directing it. Also, the record was not good at all; it is enough to remember that David Lynch’s version definitively distanced him from commercial titles. When it became known that Denis Villeneuve would be in charge of bringing Frank Herbert’s novel to the big screen, the public was excited because they had reference films such as The Arrival – 94%, Blade Runner 2049 – 88% and Enemy – 75%, but still there was a lot of fear.

After a long wait, partly due to the global pandemic, the film starring Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya finally premiered during the Venice International Film Festival. In the rest of the world, Dune will arrive in October and hopes to become an international hit despite restrictions and it will also premiere in HBO Max. It is necessary that the adaptation has a good reception at the box office to ensure the long-awaited second part and other possible titles and spin-offs.
For months, Chalamet himself, Oscar Isaac and Jason Momoa, among others, spoke highly of the film and assured that it was revolutionary and a masterpiece. When it comes to promoting your own work it is necessary to do it optimistically, but many times the expectations are so high that there is no way to please the audience. Luckily, and being one of those strange cases, it seems that this time everything is true.
Dune tells the story of the Atreides family, who move to a desert planet called Arrakis to take over the production of invaluable material for the galaxy. His son Paul, future heir, will see his life change rapidly due to betrayal and will have to start his own path as an exiled prophet of The Fremen, a native group of that planet that has been constantly ignored and violated by the empire. The novels are really long and complex, so fans will be quite relieved to hear that early reactions ensure that this is a great script job that fulfills Herbert’s own vision.

More opinions about Dune, but for now everyone considers it a masterpiece:
Dune is out of this world, in every sense of the expression, and it’s a cinematic experience like no other. Seeing this in Venice 78 was a bit like witnessing history, this is one of the few films that are destined to shape this decade in cinema.

Denis Villeneuve might be the most talented filmmaker you’ve ever seen. Seeing Dune is disarming yourself, undoing yourself, touching yourself in a space of your own essence; it is like returning, after a long absence, to being a human being.
DUNE (2021) | Dir: Villeneuve. Denis Villenueve may be the most gifted filmmaker I’ve ever seen. To watch DUNE is to have yourself taken apart, undone, touched at the place of your own essence; it is to be turned back, as if after a long absence, into a human being. # Venezia78

Stunningly beautiful to look at, it wakes you up to experience. Pump, pump and pump that excitement in your veins. Ferguson is imposing, as usual. Chalamet does his best in such a moderate action role. Geometric elegance in chaos.
# Venezia78 #Dune Part One. Jaw-dropping gorgeous to watch, rousing to experience. It pumps and pumps and pumps that spice in your veins. Ferguson is commanding, intense as usual. Chalamet gives his best in such a subdued action role. Geometric elegance in chaos. #DuneMovie

Dune is an absolute masterpiece. The epic of Lawrence of Arabia, the narrative wit of The Arrival, the intensity of Pontecorvo and Nolan… and an incredible blockbuster with great Oscar potential for the wonderful Denis Villeneuve.

I can confirm. Dune will possibly go down in history as one of the great works of epic science fiction. The performances are stellar across the board. Visual effects and practical effects are beautifully mixed. It could be Hans Zimmer’s best work. See it in theaters!

Sometimes you just know you saw something spectacular. And Dune is the greatest thing for me. Denis Villeneuve’s masterpiece is an overwhelming symphony of spectacle, sound, and narrative. A cinematic odyssey as visceral as it is epic.
Sometimes you just know when you’ve seen an all-time great … And #Dune is, to me, an all-time great. Denis Villeneuve’s masterpiece is a sweeping symphony of spectacle, sound, and storytelling. A cinematic odyssey that is every bit as visceral as it is epic. # Venezia78 pic.twitter.com/1kkgVPIGw5

The first advances of Dune they were praised worldwide, but here the important thing is that the story was brought to fruition. Fortunately, Denis Villeneuve he knows very well how to adapt, since several of his previous tapes are novels, short stories and plays, and it seems that once again he manages to overcome himself with this work. We will have to wait a little longer to see if there are negative comments from the audience once it is released commercially. With these first opinions it is clear that the public is also being encouraged to go to movie theaters to appreciate this magnificent work.
