In recent years Oscar Isaac has made a name for himself in the film and entertainment industry, we have already seen him work with renowned filmmakers like the Coen brothers and popular filmmakers like Zack Snyder, but in the last six years his career has been marked for his role as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy: Star Wars: The Force Awakens – 92%, Star Wars: The Last Jedi – 91% and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – 61%.

Although we will see him soon in the science fiction epic Dune – 80%, Isaac expressed during his time at the Venice Film Festival 2021 that he is happy to have been able to do a “character study” in his new film, The Card Counter – 100%, directed by Paul Schrader, after spending several years working on “the space land of green screens”, this as a reference to his time through Star Wars, without a doubt.
The green screens you refer to are a well-known special effects technique where actors stand in front of a bright green (or blue) colored fabric, which is later removed with special effects and replaced by any landscape, be it a distant planet, outer space, or a real city as it was seen in the last century. These were his words, according to Deadline (via The Playlist):
I’ve been in the space land of green screens for quite a few years, and was desperate to do a character study.

Despite Isaac’s words, the Star Wars sequel trilogy stood out above the prequels in its use of special effects, as it balanced practical special effects with computer-generated effects (CGI), but what it couldn’t balancing out were the scripts for his three installments, which feel improvised and contradictory.
The Card Counter has been well received by critics, as well as Duneby Denis Villeneuve. Although one might think that when speaking of space earth he also refers to Dune, It seems that he has a different concept from the latter, because in an interview with Total Film he said that they are very different franchises:
Sure, there are also some spaceships. But that’s where the similarities end [con Star Wars]. [Dune] It is not a typical science fiction movie. It has elements of that, but it is also a meditation. What Frank Herbert did, and then Denis did as well, is explore those themes of the family, of the clashes of cultures, and simply put it in a setting that allows you to dream about it.
In this season that we have not had new Star Wars films, streaming has been one of the most accessible means for the public to enjoy new productions of their interest; In 2020 we had several successful series, Netflix stood out again with Cobra Kai – 95%, Ratched – 87%, Emily in Paris – 95% and Queen’s Gambit – 93%, among others, but Disney was not far behind, as the second season of The Mandalorian – 91% was one of the most watched at the time, and there are several Star Wars series in development.
Zack snyder also triumphed in streaming in the horror and science fiction genre thanks to The Army of the Dead – 78%, but then it was announced that he would make a science fiction film titled Rebel moon, which takes up an idea he presented to Lucasfilm more than ten years ago for a potential Star Wars film. The franchise created by George Lucas had a huge influence on Hollywood and it is not surprising that other studios want to replicate its success. Thus Rebel moon was hyped ever since it was announced as a kind of Star Wars combined with Akira Kurosawa movies (specifically The Seven Samurais – 100%).
Entertainment has been a very important part of the lockdown due to the pandemic; little by little with vaccination people have returned to the movies but it has been a slow process and there is still a long way to go before the world can return to normal pre-pandemic.
