The average price of electricity in the wholesale market increase this Thursday 4.47% and stand at 141.71 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), the highest figure in history, according to the Iberian Electricity Market Operator (OMIE).
Thus, the price of electricity will rise more than six euros compared to the 135.65 euros of yesterday Wednesday, after a month in which it has marked records never seen so far in successive sessions.
The average price of electricity this Thursday surpassed the record of last Thursday, when it reached the second historical maximum with 140.23 euros per megawatt hour, which makes it the most expensive day in history since there are records.
Friday marked the third most expensive price in the historical series with 137.70 euros per megawatt hour
The price range for this Thursday will range between 155.62 euros at nine in the evening and 120.92 euros at five in the morning.
The price of this Thursday multiply by more than three the cost of the same day last year, when a daily average price of 46.08 euros per MWh was recorded.
The time between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., the most expensive
Last week, the price of electricity in the wholesale market set record after record between Monday and Thursday, and then give a truce on Friday and the weekend.
Specifically, last week began with the price soaring almost 22%, to register a rise of 5% on Tuesday, 1.5% on Wednesday and 6% on Thursday. After this bullish rally, last Friday the price fell by 1.8%, to 137.7 euros, on Saturday another 2%, to 134.89 euros MWh, and on Sunday 4.59%, to 128, 70 euros MWh.
The situation changed last Monday, when the price rebounded 3% compared to Sunday, to stand at 132.65 euros MWh, but again took a breather on Tuesday, when it fell to 127.36 euros MWh. However, on Wednesday the upward path was resumed, with an average price rise of 6.5%, and today Thursday it rose another 4.4%, thus linking two consecutive days of increases.
Attending to time zones, the cheapest of this Thursday will take place between 05.00 and 06.00 hours, when it will drop to 120.92 euros. Conversely, the most expensive will be between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., when the price shoots up to 155.62 euros.
The first two weeks of September already have a record of having the highest prices ever seen in the wholesale market.
During the month of August, and in the heat of the heat wave, the price was setting a new record after another, causing the average price of the month to reach 106 euros / MWh, the most expensive month in history, after July, that already marked another record, with a price of 92.4 euros.
