The cited source confirms that Apple will provide the technology capable of transcribing the voice memo to text, and not Facebook. Therefore, the audio content will not be stored on the servers of Mark Zuckerberg’s company. Apple will also use the transcripts, which will be shared anonymously, to improve its speech recognition service. The function, of course, could only be available on WhatsApp for iPhone.
To convert a voice note into text, the user must click on an option available in the conversation and accept a special permission that specifies that the content will be sent to Apple. By accepting, WhatsApp will open a new tab with the voice message and the possibility of transcribing it to appear in text. It will also be possible transcribe only part of the audio. The text conversions will be saved locally on the device and can be viewed at any time.
