It is clear that the Mexican public looks for certain patterns in these projects. Soccer, the comedies of yesteryear and series / novels based on the life and work of great artists seem to be a guarantee of success. Club de Cuervos, Guerra de neighbors – 60% and Luis Miguel: La Serie – 100% are just a few examples of what the world of streaming offers the country. HBO has always tried to put a spin on these issues to maintain its reputation, and that is how it developed Mr. Avilastarring Tony Dalton; and Cappadocia, starring Ana de la Reguera. With this same purpose, this year Amarres was released, a romantic comedy that became the first Mexican title to be released in HBO Max.
Now, the company has unveiled its future plans. In an official statement, released to celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day, HBO revealed that he is working on two series with which he hopes to please very different audiences. On the one hand, there are those who are fans of biographical series but who need something different; and on the other hand, those who seek mystery and a history that highlights the traditions of the country.
A weird world is a series based on the singer’s life Jose Alfredo Jimenez created and written by Carlos Algara, best known for Blue demon. It will not be a common biographical series, as the story will tell how the spell of a gypsy makes the singer exchange bodies with Lucia, a girl who lives in 2021 and is not a fan of his music. In addition to the clear differences of time and age, part of the plot will be to highlight the importance of the classic songs and how they changed Mexico, so any alteration in the past could turn into a historical disaster. With the phrase of “He wrote songs … She will rewrite the past” the company announces that the program is in full swing.

The other series in which HBO is working will be called Enigma Guadalupe and will be based on an episode of a novel by Francisco Ortega. Here it will be told how one of the most sacred relics in Mexico is destroyed after an attack on the Basilica of Guadalupe very similar to the one that occurred on November 14, 1921, where a man placed a bouquet of flowers at the feet of the Virgin that caused a detonation. Mariana Montenegro, an expert archaeologist, is forced to work with those responsible for the attack to decipher the secret of the Virgin’s tilma. Montenegro will discover that the tilma is actually a code made in a dead language that only she knows perfectly. It is a story of mystery and danger where the truth can be very disturbing.
Both titles will be created under the seal of WarnerMediaAlthough they do not have a release date yet. For now, not much is known about the cast or the rest of the production, or if they have already started filming or not, as they could be keeping the work a secret.
It is a fact that streaming platforms must maintain a good rhythm in their releases so as not to lose the public, but it is also true that the stories they offer to Latin America must be better and better. Little by little the gap between Hollywood and other industries is narrowing, from budget to talent, and you can no longer give the audience the same story and the same characters as twenty years ago. It’s time for these services to explore other genres and styles to compete globally with other quality productions.
