Rio de Janeiro, Jun 30 . .- The dog adopted by the first lady of Brazil, Michelle Bolsonaro, who quickly won the affection of the residents of the Alvorada Palace, only enjoyed twelve days of the pleasures of the official residence of the Presidency because its owner appeared to claim it.
The return of “Augusto Bolsonaro” to its owner on Tuesday was confirmed by the “adoptive mother” herself in a message on her social networks in which she said goodbye to the pet with a last photograph.
“My love, we are going to miss everything we did with you,” said Michelle Bolsonaro.
Baptized as “Augusto Bolsonaro”, the dog, a mixture of the white and large size shepherd-maremano and akita breeds, gained rapid popularity by appearing in different photographs on social networks alongside members of the presidential family and even managed to a page on Instagram with almost 6,000 followers.
The pet was found on June 18 at the bottom of the Planalto Palace -the headquarters of the Presidency- and, as no one appeared to claim it despite the published notices since a animal protection institution lodged it one day and tried to locate its owners, the first lady decided to adopt it.
Its owner managed to locate it precisely because of the success the dog achieved on the internet.
The owner, identified as Nagib Zeida and to whom President Jair Bolsonaro himself returned the pet, said that “Augusto Bolsonaro” is actually called “Zeus”, who is a year and a half old, and who ran away from the country house in who lived close to Brasilia for going after a female that was in heat.
“Palace officials found him, but I don’t know how he ended up with the Bolsonaro family. Everyone goes crazy with him because he is very pretty,” Nagib told the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper.
Zeus’s short-lived life as a presidential pet did not go blank by the opposition.
Former president and socialist leader Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, one of the main political opponents of the far-right leader, did not directly address the issue but marked with a “like” a comment by a follower on Facebook that the pet “should be happy “for ceasing to be a Bolsonaro.
