Chris Archer is not coming from a good season, but could help | Justin Berl / .
Everyone knows that the New York Yankees need pitchers, in the absence of Luis Severino, the suspension of Domingo Germán and doubts about the return of James Paxton.
It will be a short season, so each team should arm themselves in the best way. Especially one with aspirations, like the Bronx club.
Others, aware that the postseason doesn’t include them, may offer the Yankees a solution. Like the Pittsburgh Pirates.

It would be the perfect opportunity to part with Chris Archer, something they already tried last season.
Archer did not do very well in 2019. He had a 5.19 ERA and has generally been in debt lately.
But he still had a good K / 9 rate (10.8) and has another advantage: He played for six seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, which is why he knows the East division of the American League.
In New York they could bet on their recent past, which was successful. Between 2016 and 2018, the right had an effectiveness of 4.12, 3.64 FIP and 1,284 WHIP. He also released over 200 innings in 2 of the 3 seasons.
Almost 2 years ago, the Pirates made one of the worst trades in recent memory by trading Austin Meadows and Tyler Glasnow for Chris Archer. 2019 stats:
Archer: 3-9 5.19 was 82 was +
Glasnow: 1.78 was .890 whip 250 was +
Meadows: 4 WAR .922 ops 143 ops +

To get hold of Archer’s arm, in New York they will have to part with Clint Frazier.
The outfielder is young, what the Pirates need for his rebuilding, and he is solid offensively. And that will be highly appreciated in Pittsburgh, which also has room for him in the outfield after the departure of Starling Mars.
